Post Asus M3N78-VM / X2 4850e
Hi!

First of all, thank you for all the great Information in this Forum and the site before. Based on them i installed my own ESXi.

Specs:
MB: Asus M3N78-VM
CPU: AMD Athlon64 X2 4850e@2,5 GHz
Memory: 4 x 2GB A-Data DDR2-800
Cooler: Scythe Shuriken B
NIC: Intel Pro 1000GT Desktop PCI
HDD: 1x500GB Hitachi + 1x1000GB Hitachi

Starts from USB-Stick, no optical Drive installed. Case is an HTPC-Case from Jue-Jye. Its perfectly for that application an the PSU is really quiet.

Thanks for posting your system. How large is that case and would it fit a DVD-ROM if you wanted?

Hi!

Here you can find some more Informations about the Case:
http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a280870.html

At the Moment, the official page of Jou-Jye is offline:
http://web28.confixx02.giracom.info/Pro ... ne/Nu1290/

I had to modify some entries described in the other geforce 8200 threads, to support SATA. The onboard NIC didn't work with the forcedeth driver.

If there is anybody having a solution, please post it here. :!:

So what do I have to do to get ESXi 3.5 or 4 to work with this Motherboard?

I'd drop in an Intel Pro/1000 GT NIC.

What sort of storage controller does this have?

_griswold_,

How did you get the SATA drives recognized, I tried looking for it on other forms but came up with nothing. I am using the geforce 8200 When i go to add a datastore my SATA drive is not recognized. You said "I had to modify some entries described in the other geforce 8200 threads, to support SATA. ", what did you have to modify?

So you have ESXi installed. Are you booting from USB flash drive? If you run fdisk -l at the console does the drive show up?

Yes Esxi 4.0 is installed, I am booting from a flash drive and i have 2 250GB Sata Hard Drives mirrored. When i go under configuration in vSphere it says "The VMware ESX Server does not have persistent storage" and when i click to create a datastore, i select Disk/LUN and nothing shows up in the list. and when i go to the console on the server, (pressing "ctrl + F1", if thats correct) it says "Failed to load tpm" and i am unable to type anything.

See here for console access - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/ESXi_enable_SSH.php.

ESX(i) doesn't support RAID for controllers like the Intel ICH or nVidia MCP so if you're using those the best you'll get is individual drives.
