Post How do I make an OEM.TGZ using ESX1 4.1?
I am trying to create, using script mkesxiaio_4.1.sh, an updated ISO for ESXi 4.1. I have the VMware-VMvisor-Installer-4.1.0-260247.x86_64 file in the directory, but it also requires the oem.tgz file. I have, using Remote Tech Support, access to the simple.map file, and I know how to edit that.

All I am missing is the presumably very simple task of creating an oem.tgz from this simple.map. When I look at the VMware-VMvisor-Installer-4.1.0-260247.x86_64 the only oem.tgz file on it contains empty-tar.tgz.temptar.

I know I must have missed or misunderstood a very simple step, but this is stopping me at the moment and any help is appreciated.

Alternatively, does anyone have an oem.tgz file, suitable for ESXi 4.1 that contains the lines needed for the SRCS28X RAID card?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

You download a oem file from this site and during the script you get the question to edit the file

A oem.tgz is just tared files/folders of any file you like to add to the system. It has to have the correct folder structure as it's on the system.

I second that motion. I have created 5 different CDs with different oem.tgz files and none of them work.

mainly the SATA controller on my Asus M2A-VM board which is SB600. I was successful building the OEM file on my flash drive boot up. But where do I add the file, the post about adding the OEM to the ISO says put it in a path that doesn't exist - as I understand that post says to put it in the root as well as put it in this path that does not exisit.

Not good.

I think that 4.1.0 Update1 (VMKernel Build Release 348481) uses different internal files for oem.tgz than previous versions.

I want to suspect that the same is true of 4.0.0 Update2 and 3.5.0 Update5.

I've posted details on the issue at http://code.google.com/p/mkesxiaio/issues/detail?id=4

TIA,
alphastar

P.S. This is on a Dell Precision T3500. I have another T3500 installation successfully running VMware ESX Server 3i, 153875 with unsupported NICs, via a custom ISO (pre mkesxiaio.sh).
