I just made an acount, just to thank you Hardworker!

I have the 82578DM Controller and followed the instructions and it worked like a charme! Thanks everybody!
By the way if someone wants the special oem.tgz for the intel S3420GPLC, just pm or email me.

S3420GPV here with the 82578DM controller.

I was able to get the controller recognized and some what functional but it intermittently drops connection and stops working under even minor load.

Anyone else encountered this problem?

gvel50: I'd like to give your oem.tgz a try, since the boards are essentially identical for our purposes.

thnx hardworker and varazir for the nice basement.

one question: could there be an updated oem.tgz for the 1.20 driver - or better: how had you compiled the previous drivers successfully hardworker?

want to do this for http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 7&lang=deu

I would apologize, made a mistake by running the script, after reading more carefully managed to create the ISO.

I would like to thank the patience, finally got my DH55TC running with an additional network card Realtek 8169.

Great work guys.

I'm trying to install ESXi 4 on a DQ57TM intel board, which has the 82578DC NIC built in. I've been able to modify the oem.tgz and get to the esxi initialization when i get the Pink Screen of Death, telling be that the boot image is corrupted.

Looking at the log i see that I'm getting a bad header error on the pci.ids.

Does anyone know how to solve this? is it really just a simple syntax error that I'm missing because I've been at this for too long?

Did you use a pre-built oem file?

i used the oem.tgz file hardworker posted for the 1.1.19 driver and added in the changes to accommodate my NIC.

OK - I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a 3.5 oem file.

How did you create the ISO?

Just a heads up and I'm not sure it'll make a difference but i'm building this image on a windows box...

I downloaded a fresh copy of ESXi 4 and opened it with magicISO, added oem.tgz to the isolinux.cfg and added the oem.tgz file itself to the root directory of the image. I then burnt it to a rewriteable cd using NERO.

This really seems like it should be easier than this so I have to be missing something...

Adding the oem.tgz file will get you through the install (assuming no issues with the oem.tgz file). but you should also edit isolinux.cfg in the root folder to add --- oem.tgz to the vmkernel boot command.

There is a second copy of oem.tgz within a disk image on the install CD. That get's installed to disk and you'll have to update that as well. You can do it before you install (see Varazir's script at the top of this forum) or you can boot with a Linux live CD after the install and add it to partition 1 of the install (and also partition 2) - the partition count starts with 0.
