 Re: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
I have same setup as above but with :
NIC: Intel PRO CT Gigabit Adapter ( pci express ) ESXi: 4.1.0 (260247)
Installs fine and runs without a hitch.

I didn't test it long. I just install ESXi on it. I will test it more. Any problems will be posted.
Thanks for Dave.Mishchenko (vm-help.com forum) and PiLsY (XtremeSystems forum) for their help and suggestions.
ESXi can be boot from pendrive too. I installed (choosed pendrive as a destination) and boot ESXi from 1GB pendrive without problems/errors) There's two revisions of this board (Rev 1.0 and Rev 2.0) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/list.aspx?s=42&jid=0&p=2&v=1. Please can people with this board confirm which revision they have and whether or not revision 2.0 is compatible with ESXi 4.0/4.1? I don't know how long the second revision was released after the first. I have read that the VRM's have been redesigned and rev 2.0 has a 12-phase power circuit for the CPU whereas the former uses a 8-phase circuit. **Just for the record, I've found out now that both boards are near enough the same. The only difference I found is that Rev 1.0 has a RTL8111D LAN and Rev 2.0 has RTL8111E LAN chip. Rev 2.0 also has an extra unique feature which provides support for ON/OFF Charge (upto 3 times faster charge for Apple products i.e. iPhone, iPod, iPad etc) Can people still confirm which working revision number they have?** Many thanks in advance

 Re: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
hi!
Probably arrived late here but anyway. I can confirm I have the revision 2.0 of this board and that passthrough (Intel VT-d) does not work. I also had to use a custom driver 8168 found in these forums for the onboard Realtek card. It will work but not so stable, not recommended to actual host vms using this lan card. I have order an intel 1000/GT and I'm going to use this one. Hopefully it will be ok!

 Re: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
I chose the ASUS P6X58D-E board in the end. It was similarly priced and, from reading review articles on the net, is better for overclocking as it has a stronger power phase.
I'm yet to build my whitebox, however. I'm buying the components in bits and still need a new case, a PSU, 12 gigs of Corsair Dominator GT DDR3 (3 x 4GB). This way, should I need to, I'll be able to add a further 12GB as there are 6 DIMM slots and the board supports a maximum capacity of 24GB. I also need an internal storage device or two for the datastores (ideally SSD for super fast VM boot/load/access times etc) and propose to resolve my data headache by introducing a SAN/NAS solution - either QNAP or Synology, probably a QNAP 259 Pro+ NAS with a couple of 2TB drives. I will be using my Intel Core i7-950 CPU.

Did you test VMDirectPath with the ASUS P6X58D-E ? Is it working?

Is there a certain configuration for the BIOS? I'm getting the following errors: Code: [ 0.000000] ELCR contains invalid data... no using ELCR
Kernel alive kernel mapping tables up to 320000000 @ 8000-16000 Thank you!

 Re: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
No, I haven't even taken the board out of its box yet! I will test as soon as I purchase the remaining components.
To my knowledge, VMDP allows upto two PCI/PCIe devices in the host to be made available and connected to VMs. Is this true?
