Post VMDirectPath on Asus P5Q Pro - Bad Luck?
Hello to everyone!

I recently upgraded from Esxi3.5 to 4.0 and 4.1 on that board (serves me well for some years), but i am not able to get VMDirectPath working (greyed out in vSphereClient).
According to Intel the chipset (P45) provides vt-d (check here: http://ark.intel.com/system.aspx?groupID=33924&configID=27616&chipsetID=36571 or here: http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=34470), i enabled all settings in Bios (latest Version 2102), tried for days now, but no luck.
My goal is to give the onboard SATA (ICH10R) to a solaris vm.

Any hints/tipps/tricks around?
TIA
funi

Do you have a specific setting in the BIOS for VT-d? I know when I had look at Asus MBs that would be VT-d compatible I had looked at 2 almost identical MBs (same chipset), but only one exposed the VT-d setting.

Hi Dave

These are the only settings in Bios (regarding virtualization)

Are you running the latest BIOS? The VT option listed is for VT-x (which enables 64 bit guests), but doesn't enable VT-d. You may also want to look around on the other menus as VT-x and VT-d aren't necessarily found on the same BIOS menu.

Hi Dave

Unfortunately there are no other settings in other menus and its the latest bios.
Shame on Asus for crippling technology to useless junk (unless the mods in the Asus forum state that the board is able, blablabla...).

Asus P5Q Pro has no VT-d and therefore not capable for VMDirectPath.
I´ll have to look for other hardware, i don´t want to go with RDM...

Thanks for helping

PS: your subforumtitle "VMDiectPath" is missing an "r" ;)
