Virtualize w2k3 Domain Controller in 1-server Domain?
Trying to virtualize a Windows 2003 R2 server before the motherboard dies completely.
I tried a few times with VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client, and it's failed ever time. When I start up the machine, I get the blue screen of death.
Doing some digging around, it looks like Sysprep isn't working correctly. And, I suspect that is because this is a domain controller -- in fact, the only domain controller in a 1 server domain?
Any ideas on how to virtualize this server, besides doing the dcpromo thing and killing the domain?

A new install would be the best option, but if you want to P2V I would check out MOA at this site - http://sanbarrow.com. It'll allow you to perform a cold clone. You shouldn't need to run sysprep on the server as you're making a copy of the host (i.e. once you've created the VM you won't ever power on the physical DC again).

Hmmm...
Wonder if that would be good to make images of Netware boxes (NSS volumes) too?
Or is that strictly a NTFS volume thing?

MOA uses VMware Converter which i believe is limited to converting Linux and Windows.

I saw that. Twenty-four hours.
Just nervous about a computer that might be on death's door (locks up, etc).

What's your login for the site there? I'll fire off a PM to the site owner.

Geek49203.
Please let me know what to kiss, when to kiss it, etc.
Not only does this download interest me, but the forensic stuff piqued my interest as well. I look forward to being a member there.
Thanks!

I've fired off an email to him. I'd expect he'll be asleep for at least another 5 hours but hopefully he'll be able to look into your account on Sunday.
