Does ESXi see a RAID array on this card or just individual drives.

I'm just tested individual disks, but I doubt ESXi would see this as an array (this is yet another boot-help-bios software-raids)

Did you have to do anything special to get this card recognized? I installed the card and put two drives on it. I am unable to install to either of them, it gives me a generic error and then won't let me install. Just Curious.
Thanks,

What's the specific error that you get?

If you access the console for ESXi (even during the install) you can use lspci -p to see if the driver has loaded for the controller and fdisk -l to see if your disks are seen.

Re: Add on controller: Silicon Image SiI3512 pci eSATA OK
It sees the disks as being available and that there are two of them. However when I choose one of the disks to install it asks me to confirm after I do that it then comes back and says "Installation operation Failed!". Unable to write image to the selected disk. This may be caused by bad sectors on the device or another hardware problem.
I have tried this with multiple disks and get the same error with all of them, these are good disks that were taken out of another machine.
Any thoughts?

Do you have a RAID array setup or the disks as individual drives?

I think I have figured out the problem. These SATA Disks had come out of my drobo unit and I am trying to figure out what formatting was done to them in there. I ended up doing the install to an IDE disk that I had and that went just fine.
