Post Installing on an HS20 ide blade
Hi,

I'm having some problems trying to install ESXi onto an ide disk in an IBM HS20 blade.

I have been following the instructions here.

lspci -v shows

00:15.01 RAID bus controller Mass storage controller: ServerWorks CSB6 RAID/IDE

Class 0104: 1166:0213

fdisk -l shows nothing.

The hardware compatability page has an entry

1166 0213 0000 0000 storage ide CSB6 RAID/IDE Controller

I believe I've folowed the instructions correctly, but I cant see a disk.
I have tried the blade with single or striped disks(no difference)

Any one have any suggestions I can try?

Thanks

Do you have a BIOS option to change the mode of the controller (i.e. to non RAID)? If fdisk doesn't show the disk then ESXi has a problem with the controller that the IDE install method won't help with.

Hi Dave,
I change the mode of the controller to IDE (Raid disable)
Vmware still don't see the drive.
I try solution with "vi /usr/lib/vmware/installer/Core/TargetFilter.py"
No results.

Do you have any solutions???

Would you be able to post the output of lspci -p? basically I'd like to see if the controller has been recognized and if the driver (module) has loaded for it.

Ok Dave.
I attach the files (printscrens) with:
lspci -p
lspci

With the blade in IDE mode, does fdisk -l show anything?

I would add that the installation of Windows or Linux runs without a problem both RAID and IDE mode.

Are you using ESXi 3.5 or 4?

I use ESXi 3.5 because processors in my Blades are not EMT64.

My configuration:
IBM Blade Server HS20 model 8832-21X
2x Intel Xeon 2800 MHz/533/512kB
4 GB RAM (2x 2 GB)
40 GB 2.5" IDE Toshiba
Dual Gigabit Ethernet,
Raid Controller,
ATI Rage XL
