Post Customizing oem.tgz
sorry guys newbie here.

I've been trying to use a BC4852 (ex Raidcore controller). This is listed on esx as unknown device as per below:

0a:02.0 RAID bus controller: ServerWorks RAIDCore RC4000
Subsystem: Unknown device 182f:0005

I'm positive that If I could point ESX to use the RC4000 driver sata_svw that the controller would work. (http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/Hardware_support.php)

However I don't know what to add on oem.tgz ; I read the instructions about modifying oem.tgz at http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/customize_oem_tgz.php but I am not clear as to what I need to change.

Any pointers much appreciated.. !

thanks.

You'll want to change both simple.map and pci.ids. With simple.map you'll add the vender / device ID that your device is using and with pci.ids you can add an entry for your device. If the vender ID isn't listed in pci.ids you'll have to add that as well.

The pci.ids change is optional. If you don't add it, the controller won't have a recognize name in the VI client or when you run the lspci command.

thanks for the reply. I'll try it out and see.

Is the procedure roughly the same for ESX ?

ESX uses a different set of files. Take a look at this thread - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=29.
