Post Dell Precision T3500 - Confirmed Working
Hi All,

I bought a 2 year used Dell Precision T3500. Installed ESXi 5.0 via a USB Install and Installed it on another 8GB USB Stick (SONY). Everything was detected out of the box and worked !

Specs :

Processor : Intel Quad XEON W3520 (HT - 8MB Cache)
Chipset : Intel X58
RAM : 24GB DDR3 (NON-ECC) RAM Installed (6 Banks, 4GB Each)
Hard Disk : 2 x 1TB SATA-II Hard Disks
Graphics : Nvidia Quadro FX3500
NIC : Broadcom (Will confirm the exact model) - it's working though.

All above hardware was detected and worked out of the box.

Only in Syslogs via the Esxi console I saw messages "CPU Microcode missing"

I just read that we can download microcodes off intel website and place them in appropriate directory under esx file system.

Hope this helps someone.

PS : If someone can provide me a (not to expensive) QUAD Port or Dual Port nic which is compatible out of the box, so that I can install that into this machine - that would be useful to create scenarios etc.

Don't know if you're found a NIC yet, but if you look at Intel Pro 1000 based cards you'll have a pretty good chance of getting something that'll work.

Post Re: Dell Precision T3500 - Confirmed Working
Hi Rihatum,
I've installed esxi 5.1 on my dell precision 490 machine.
- 2x intel quad xeon e5345
- 16Gb of ram
- 1T sata hard drive
- broadcom bcm5759 Gb ethernet nic
- nvidia quadro fx 3500 graphic card

All above hardware was detected and worked out of the box, like for your machine.
I just have a problem with the nvidia graphic card. I have the normal output on my screen but the fan on the graphic card is always on (making a lot of noise). It seems like no specific driver is installed for the card. (when installed on a OpenSuse system with nvidia driver everything is fine, no noise).
Do you have the same issue ?
Thanks

Hi Loic3,

I have the same issue :-) nvidia graphics card fan just keeps going, I am going to replace it with a basic video / gfx card ... i am not sure how one can get rid of the fan noise / or stop the fan - so changing it to a cheap gfx card without fan :-)

Hi Rihatum,
Thank's for the answer.
I will do the same i think, i'll buy a cheap one. For now i just unpluged the nvidia quadro. The server is working without complaining about no graphic card.
Thank's a lot.
