 Asrock Z68 Pro3 Gen3 is working with ESXi 5.0U1!
Mainboard: Asrock Z68 Pro3 Gen3 Socket 1155 Prozessor: Intel Xeon E3-1235 RAID: Intel RAID Controller SRCSASLS4 Memory: G.Skill PC3-12800 16GB DDR3-Kit Harddisc: 4x2TB WD2003FYYS
- Onboard is working but slow compared to dedicated raid-controller - VT is supported - VT-D is working - FT is working - Onboard NIC is fully supported and recognized as Realtek 8168 Gigabit Ethernet
Notes: 1.20 Bios is necessary on Mainboard to enable VT-D and pass PCI-Cards to a virtual machine. Notes: USB 2.0 Stick Boot WITHOUT EFI-Boot only, otherwise configuration is lost between powercycle
Installation: I used Fusion to install ESXi 5.0 to Stick. I updated to 5.0 U1 without any problem via vCenter+VUM
Idle-Power (DC + Debian-Timecapsule-Emulation running) -> 95 Watt (45 Watt -> Harddisks spinning alone) Power (Windows 7 + Handbrake + 8 Cores at 90%) -> 165 Watt

Hi,
What is the real advantage of a XEON vs I7?

Some of the differences will include: - ECC support - larger cache - support for VT-x / VT-d If you have the models you're looking at, you can compare them on Intel's site - for example - http://ark.intel.com/compare/42932,48499.

Thank you dave,
I think that I read some configuration with no Xeon supporting VM-d, can I be wrong?
The cache is the same. So if you don't need ECC and you have VM-d are almos the same.

I have a similar setup (same mobo, I5 2400 CPU). I did not get VT-d to work until I updated bios to version 2.1. Using bios 1.1 and 1.2 resulted in directPath: "not supported".
