In a VM created with ESXi 5.x, I can also install Workstation 8.x with its VM?

I dont know, but why make it more difficult then it needs to be by any potential issues?

There is conversion software u can install with workstation8 with a straitforward wizard that will take care of this for you and make sure its done correctly.
