now i am testing same thing with esxi 5 ,

i want 3 guest on vmware esxi ,i have 6 gb ram on the system and i am planning to use 1.5*4 (esxi ,utm, windows, linux) i have 1 netgear gs108t switch which i 1gb managed switch but i have 41rq system which has only 2 (pci slot) -2 intel pro 1000 (detected by vmware) and 1 with rtl8196 card/onboard ,hdd is 160 gb and i have another 1 8 port normal switch

utm is vmware certified and support vlan

i have many question

1) do i use 3 card (lan, wan, dmz),if i use this 3 card what kind of configuration i have to do on vmware
2) do i have to use 1 card with vlan within vmware or what ?
3) how many vnic and vswitch i should use

this is a relavent thread

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2610 but i fail to undersand and configure it with esxi 4.1

I'd lean towards a single vSwitch with both Intel cards. Then create 3 virtual machine port groups and assign a different VLAN to each. Configure the switch ports as trunk ports. In this configuration you would also need to add a router to handle traffic between the various subnets, but this could also be a VM.
