I would like to move my virtual machines from my laptop to a spare machine, but unfortunately the motherboard in that machine has Marvell 8056 LAN chip not supported by default installation.

I have read on the internet that ESXi 4.1 uses the Sky2 driver for Marvell chip, and it was included in ESX.

Can anyone help a newbie how to make this card working in ESXi 5 ?

Yeah i can confirm this was the case on my mainboard too.

pain in the backside as i need to use 5.0, not 4.1, but thankfully realtek nic's work, and these are very very cheap cheap ~£5 new, in some cases. just wish id found this out before buying a more expensive dual intel PT card

You can try this, I still haven't had time to fully test it however it got 5 installed and working during management.

I only added 11ab:4364 which I believe covers all of the Marvel 8056.

Just add the .map and pci.ids
"regtype=linux,bus=pci,id=11ab:4364 0000:0000,driver=sky2,class=network"

to the viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3501

and works perfectly.

I had a P5B board with two Marvells (88E8056 and 88E8001) first one with sky2 and second one with skge recompiled by me for ESXi 5.0.
