Network card on motherboard functions great. Including using AMT and VNC for remote KVM, even ISO mounting.

Sadly, unable to get any form of spindown working on the disks.

As a word of warning, adaptec controllers do NOT work in newer motherboards using EFI bios'ses. No solution found as of yet. Hopefully they will correct this issue ASAP.

Did you manage to install and run ESXi 4.x on your DQ67OW ?

I would be thankful if you could test as many as possible of the 6 s-ata ports!

At least one from each speed (300/600), to see if ESXi is combatible with both chipsets (I think there are 2 different..), would be really helpful!

Yes, sorry about the lack of updates, this was caused by my Adaptec 5805 *not* working with this board, or probably EVER going to work. This chipset uses a new type of bios called "EFI". All great and everything, but Adaptec cards can not handle this.

Inserting the card results in a black screen during booting. Conversed with support unfixable at this moment. Other users report the same problems.

As a replacement storage card I have ordered a Intel SASUC8I. This card is an OEM of LSI based on the LSI 1068E chipset which should be supported just fine within ESX(i).

I'm currently using all 6 sata ports. 2xVertex2 + 4x2TB Samsung. The Vertex2 work fine on the 6Gbps port, but the Samsungs would not work correctly on these ports. But, that could also be caused by the chieftec backplanes I'm using. But I can confirm that using all 6 connectors work just fine.

Further then that, I'll update the main post to reflect the correct information!

I have installed Esxi 4.1 on the DQ67OW + Core i5 2500.
Everythings works fine but i have a problem with the raid controller.

I have 3 samsung spinpoint 1 TB Disks. My original plan was to make a Raid 5 configuration. When i create a Raid 5 configuration the installation of ESXI 4.1 works fine but when i will boot the new installation i get an boot error. I get the boot error because ESXI 4.1 not sees the raid configuration but 3 separate disk. When set my MB to AHCI instead of RAID it works fine. Has anybody an idea how to solve this so i can use a RAID 5 configuration.

Recently i bought DQ67OW + Core i5 2500 with 16 GB Geil 1333 and 3 samsung spinpoint 1TB disk.
I installed ESXi 4.1 update 1 and after implementing oem.tgz it almost.

I want to setup a raid 5 configuration with my 3 samsung disk.
After creating these raid 5 configuration i can install ESXi.
After installation i cannot start my ESXi because i get an boot error.
This is because ESXi does not recognize the RAID5 configuration, but three separate disks. Anyone an idea how to solve this.

The ESXi drivers don't support software RAID. If you have something like an Intel ICH10R controller it is software RAID and you can only use individual disks.

As Dave already explained, any software RAID will not work within ESXi. It simply does not know what to do with it. Nothing stops you from building a RAID5 inside a guest of course (using OS/software RAID), and since paravirtual SCSI drivers the performance is actually quite good now a days, but this does nothing to protect your VM's itself.
