Will the stock CPU cooler be adequate?
I'm building a machine with the following CPU in a Thermaltake micro ATX case: Quote: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor Will the stock CPU cooler be sufficient? If I'm going to use an aftermarket cooler it will be much easier to install it during the initial build. Thanks, Jake

What sort of mix of VMs do you plan to run. On my test boxes the CPU tends to run low in terms of utilization. But if I were running production VMs and expecting higher utilization then I would consider putting in the better cooler.

Thanks Dave. It won't be production, but I think I'll put in the aftermarket cooler anyway. They aren't that expensive and it would be a hassle to disassemble the machine and pull the motherboard if I decided to install one later.

Hey Jake... which aftermarket cooler did you go with for that chip?

Update: The Cooler Master V8 is too tall for this case. It will be in the way of the PSU.

It looks like it does a great job on his MB. 1.91 lbs ? - it weighs more that the MB.

Oh yeah, it's a heavy sun-of-a-gun My machine will be stationary all or most of its life, so I'm not worried about the added weight.

Re: Will the stock CPU cooler be adequate?
CPU temperatures are not that much of a worry unless the computer's case has a bad ventilation design. It's rarely to make the CPU go 100% unless you do have some crunching VMs on it and some heavy workload. I'd say that a stock cooler is fine unless you plan to have that CPU on +80% load 24/7.
