I have a tv card set up for vt-d. The vm can see the device and the drivers install fine. All looks fine including scanning for channels. I can see the signal strength and signal quality. Problem is, there are no channels found, the same device works in my workstation just not via passthrough. Is there anyway of debugging what the problem is or maybe some options to try before classing this device as incompatible with directpath?

i'd take a look through the vmware.log file for the VM and also this - http://vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/V ... h-host.pdf - particularly the reset method. Is the PCI bus shared between this TV tuner and another device?

I currently have
ONE: 1 x PCI dual dvt-t card (working 100%)
TWO: 1 x PCI dvb-s2 card (was almost working, could see signal quality but no stations found until i installed the card below, now i dont get any signal)
THREE: 1 x PCI-Express Dual dvb-s and Dual dvb-t card.

The PCI bus is shared, so all slots must be used by 1 VM (i think).
I cannot see anything in any log (which I have attached).
I have tried using the d0d3 reset for the 2nd card and also the IOAPIC mode. But nothing seems to work.

When I get a bit more time, im going to try the following

1. windows xp (seems to be less fussy from what ive read than win7)
2. Trying 1 device at a time.

Do I need to restart esxi when i change the reset mode?

XP would be worth a try. It may be an issue with a shared PCI bus.

Forget PCI and/or PCIe cards!

ESXi 4.1 and higher supports USB passthrough.

No, you can connect ANY device using ANY free USB connection (inclusive using USB hubs!).

I have a virtual machine with 3 USB DVB-T tuners (2 single, 1 dual)... more cheaper than PCI cards!
You only need to "connect" physical USB devices to a virtual machine.
