USB Boot ESxi 4.1 on HP DL165 G7
I created USB flash BOOT with VMWARE ESXi 4.1.0 and tried all steps
1 boot is running perfectly, intalling ESXi is loading > ok 2 choosing drive to install on > ok 3 last confirmation (f11) to start installation 4 Installation operation Failed!
The installation operation has encountered a fatal error: - unable to find the system image to install - this is due to the image nog being mounted correctly or the CD-ROM not being supported
HARDWARE: HP ProLiant DL165 G7
> I tried to set in Bios USB to emulate as hard drive, but no change. > During setup I can choose on which drive on array I want to install
Anyone some help, hint?
Thanks!

Re: USB Boot ESxi 4.1 on HP DL165 G7
Hello
I tried already with the ks.cfg file.
During installation I get this error message (in red):
"0:00:00:25.259 cpu7:4989)Warning: Syslog not configured. Please check Syslog options under Configuration.Software.Advanced Settings in vSpehere client."
I could monitor this error by video cam and then capture the frame with this message, because immediat afterwards appears screen with: "rescanning in 1 seconds, press enter to rescan immediatly"
This appears in an infinite loop.
Regards, Kristof

That's an OK error.
If you press ALT+F12 what sort of errors do you see?

Re: USB Boot ESxi 4.1 on HP DL165 G7
setup redone, and now ended with: "Error encountered before the user interface was initialized This system does not have a network interface card that is plugged in, or all network interface cards are already claimed. installation cannt continue as requested "
The server has 4 nic's. plugged in the first one.
ks.cfg is written like this: vmaccepteula rootpw cluster autopart --firstdisk --overwritevmfs install usb network --bootproto=static --ip=192.168.0.5 --gateway=192.168.0.1 --hostname=sumavihv --device=3c4a92e65d60 --nameserver=192.168.0.1 --netmask=255.255.255.0
also with dhcp set, same issue.
when hitting ALT-12 "installation abord" "the system does nog have a network interface"

Re: USB Boot ESxi 4.1 on HP DL165 G7
i managed to install esxi with iso: hpvm-install-208167.iso which seems to be 4.0.0 build, is this ok?
it was a matter of NIC driver
when booting the vmare host now everything goes fine, for a few moments.
after a minute, i get a pink screen with at the end: "starting coredump to disk using slot 1 of 1 987666666665432110 diskdump successful debugger is listening on serial port press Escape to enter local debugger"
what now?
-there's 20GB ram installed - 2 raids1 of each 1TB

Re: USB Boot ESxi 4.1 on HP DL165 G7
I figured it out to set "CimOEMProvidersEnabled=0"
the 2e step, to enter the console with alt-f1 doesn't work for ESxi 4.0.0. It works, but console just shows header, and that's it.
But only with the first step (CimOEMProvidersEnabled=0), the server seems to run stable now.
Can I leave it like it is, or do I have to edit the chkconfig.db too? Is it a must. If not, will I have a 100% stable vmware running?
