Post Re: Asus M3N78-VM / X2 4850e
Thank you for all your help so far, Much appreciated as I am very much new with ESXi.

I have previously turned the raid off and made them single drives and set the Sata Mode to "sata" in the bios and still no luck. is there a certain RAID card that i should put in to make it work or some kind of initialization that i need to do for it to even recognize a single drive. I thought the guy at the top of this thread had it working with this same mobo. When i do the fdisk -l all that comes up is the partitions on my usb drive vmhba32:C0:T0:L0p1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. After i enabled SSH, when i go to reboot i get the loading page with a bunch of symbols on the loading bar and a "boot:" and just stalls there. would that be a side effect of enabling ssh or is my boot key messed?

Enabling SSH won't do that. What's the PCI id for the controller in ACHI mode?

Hi Oldmanr,

ich never got this board working with the onboard controller.
I bought an cheap PCIe SATA Controller with horrible performance, but i still works. It's only for fun and testing, so it's no problem.

Does anybody got the 8200 onboard SATA work in the last 3 months?Since that, i never had a visit on this page?

no problem! It really bad, that there is no more support for that type of controller - with esxi 3.5 it worked perfectly and fast.

Please tell me what controller you want to install and how the performance looks like. My controller was very cheap (18€) - only SATA1 i think....

I purchased a vantec 6 port Sata 2 150, Model number UGT-ST310R. i plugged it in, configured my drives in a raid 1 and booted into Esxi, The drives show up now, but unfortunately instead of showing up as one drive, which i thought would be the case, they both show up...I am thinking that this might be because it is not fully supported, or maybe i have done something wrong. To be honest i have never setup a raid 1 before to see the results. any ideas?

Can you post the PCI id for it? What's the chipset used for the controller?
