Set the hard drive to achi mode in the bios. Enable VT and TXT support in the bios. Since the on board networking didn't work, I purchased an Intel 1000bt networking adapter.
ESXi finally worked, however, I still cannot run 64bit VM's. I'm currently running 3 Windows 2008 server 32bit VM's without issues. I'm using the latest bios update.
If anyone has any advice on why 64bit VM's aren't functioning, I'd like to hear it. THank for sharing Ben and I really appriciate all the peer in the forum who have shared your experience and knowlege, especially the forum admin. I am using vmWare ESXi 4 and this version of ESXi fully support my motherboard Intel DQ45CB with little tunning as introduced by Ben. My onboard nic Intel 82567LM is supported so there is no need to buy any additional Network card or hardware. Just the motherboard Intel DQ45CB is enough for your testing on VMWARE ESXi 4.0. Cheers to all VMWare ESXi users. cuchuoi.

 Re: Intel DQ45CB
Hello, posting a follow up. Recently had a drive fail so I had to reinstall ESXi. I decided to go with v4.0 build 171294. Unfortunately, after booting, I got the pink screen with the error: "Failed to initialize inter-processor time stamp"
I have no idea what this means and haven't come up with any resolutions. I believe when I originally installed months back I had a different cpu. I am using a Core 2 6320 @ 1.86GHz, so I can have 64bit guests. Other than that, same hardware. If anyone can give me more insight to this error, it would be much appreciated.

 Re: Intel DQ45CB
If you run something like this - http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php does it report the correct clock speed for the CPUs? Is it a DQ45CB that you're running?

 Re: Intel DQ45CB
Yes, same board. I checked the bios and the cpu information looks correct, but I haven't ran that utility. Going to do some more searching and ask someone at work who's VMWare certified at work. Will post any results I get here. Dave.Mishchenko wrote: If you run something like this - http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php does it report the correct clock speed for the CPUs? Re: Intel DQ45CB
Can anyone confirm the DQ45CB has VMDIRECTPATH (VT-d) ability. I want it to use in ESXi4 to map a PCI card exclusivly to a virtual machine.
The CPU i'm planning for this would be an Intel Q9550

 Re: Intel DQ45CB
It's mentioned in the product guide on page 20 - http://www.intel.com/support/motherboar ... /index.htm. One thing to watch is that the BIOS will automatically assign IRQs so your PCI device may end up sharing an IRQ with another device.

 Re: Intel DQ45CB
Thanks for the update. Are those onboard devices and could I get a screen shot of the Advanced Settings page on the Configuration tab showing the devices?

 Re: Intel DQ45CB
Hi Dave,
here's the screenshot of the ESXi4.0 advanced settings page. The soundcard and IEEE1394 are onboard devices.
I also included a screenshot of the devicemanager in the guest OS (Vista 32) that uses these devices.
You can clearly see the AGERE OHCI Compliant IEEE1394 and the SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio.
To prove it's working OK; you see the devices FireDTV DVB-S and FireDTV DVB-C, they are connected through the onboard IEEE1394 on the ESXi4.0 host
