Great - could you also post which PCI id(s) you added? And this is for a ASUS M3N78-EM right?

this file should work giving you access to SATA.

mind you, you have to set the mode to SATA in your bios. I couldn't get AHCI to work for some strange reason. I also tried with the correct pci.id's but still to no avail.

good luck with it!

ok it seems I was too enthusiastic

the controler is recognised. I can see it in Storage adapters , but it doesn't see any drives attached. A rescan also doesn't work.Any idea what would be the problem?

Take a look in /var/log/messages. Do you see any drives with fdisk -l?

no drives attached with fdisk -l

and i dont see anything in the /var/log/messages that points to an error or something

grep shows this:

Do you have any BIOS options to change the mode of the conntroller and how many SATA ports does the MB have?

I have 5 SATA ports and I do infact have the option to change the mode:

SATA
RAID
AHCI

Setting it to SATA makes esxi see the controller but not the attached disks. Furthermore only 3 of the 5 ports are seen by the bios like that

setting it to RAID or AHCI doesn't work (even when updating the pci id's and the simple map)

so im puzzled

What pci.id does lspci -l show you for the controller when you set it to AHCI.

I have my ASUS M4N78-E set to AHCI and ESXi recognizes the controller and the CD ROM attached to it. The problem is that it's a SATA CDRom so it can't be presented to the VM. But it does come up a HBA02 or something like that.

i have the same problem discussed here: http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=201&start=30

Controller will be detected but there's no viewable HDD connected to the SATA controller.

I use a ASUS M3N78-VM (Geforce 8200).

Are you able to see the Storage Controller in vSphere Client? I have no edited PCI.IDS and there is no displayed adapter name or entry.
