Post Mounting VMFS with Linux LiveCD
Is it possible to mount vmfs with a Linux LiveCD?
I can't find any support for mounting vmfs.
I would like to edit and turn on ssh in ESXi U4

I've seen mention of a driver but I beleive it was for Windows. That said, the system partitions for ESXi are fat32. Have you tried this to enable SSH - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/ESXi_enable_SSH.php.

Hmm , when I booted with a live cd and was going to copy the oem file they mounted up right away, but there is maybe one partition where the conf file is located not getting mounted. Can't remember

When you boot ESXi for the 1st time after an install inetd.conf will be extracted from ienviron.tgz. Once the host runs a system backup the copy that gets extracted from ienviron.tgz willl be over written with a copy from state.tgz (unless you put a copy in oem.tgz).

But if I have the file in the oem from the start it will use that one ?
Going to change my script abit then

Strange that it's using the ienviron.tgz as it's in the root of the CD.
environ.tgz is in the DD file and it's there I have copied my file to.

going to change it to it's in the oem file

It'll use the copy in oem.tgz (or what ever the last copy is in if you modify boot.cfg to include more tgz files).

Once you're running it will be environ.tgz (ienviron.tgz is only for the install).

That worked Dave. I heard that VMware disabled that "feature" in U4 so I didn't try it initially. Thanks for your help.

SSH is going to be around in the next version as well. What did change with update 4 was that the RCLI no longer allowed write commands with the free edition of ESXi. So you can use vifs.pl to move files, but not something like vicfg-snmp.pl to set SNMP settings (although you could use the command to read settings).
