Post ESXi 3.5 - Date problem
Hello,

I setup my ESXi server (3.5) almost a year ago and I never had any issue with it. But, yesterday, I had to restart the server and I now have a strange date issue.

After rebooting, it was frozen to January 1st 1970.
I tried to use the date command to change the date.

Code:
# date -s 123111332009
Thu Dec 31 11:33:00 UTC 2009

It works but the date remains frozen. If I run the date command again a few seconds later, I'm still getting :

Code:
# date
Thu Dec 31 11:33:00 UTC 2009

Did you encounter this issue?
Do you have any ideas why it happends or how it can be fixed?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't heard of that issue myself. Do you have the /sbin/hwclock command on your host (it may just be a 4.0 command). If you have it and querry the host's clock what do you get? Do you have your host set to sync time with an NTP server?

Thanks for your reply Dave.
Yes, I have the /sbin/hwclock command on my host.
It works fine and returns the right time:

Code:
~ # /sbin/hwclock
10:17:42   01/04/2010   UTC

Regarding the NTP synchronization, I tried it and ntpd sets the system clock to the right time, but just for one second.
But the time remains frozen after that: the exact same problem I described in my first post.

If you have any lead, please let me know.

Thanks.

Does hwclock continue to show the correct time or does it freeze as well?
