Post Workstation 7.0.0, Ubuntu 10.4, cannot install vmnet
Problem: Workstation-Full-7.0.0-203739.i386.bundle bought and installed 8th March, 2010, worked fine under Ubuntu 9.10. After update to 10.4 it does not anymore because the virtual network fails. It fails because vmnet cannot be installed when updating kernel. The last hint I was given was to update to 7.0.1.
I am at a loss now, because I cannot find anywhere to update. I might if the workstation were working, but it isn't.
I asked the VMware people for help about a week ago, but they do not bother to answer.
Can anybody help, please? I need the virtual machine in Linux as there are some CAT-tools that unfortunately require Windows XP-Professional and I want to stop switching OS.
Thank you in advance

I am a novice to virtualization and Ubuntu, however, have worked with PCs DOS, DRDOS, Windows 3,11; 95;98;Me;XP-Professional since about 1980 and I am eager to leave the viral Microsoft world.

Have you seen this - http://communities.vmware.com/message/1401588#1401588.

If it's not applicable I would suggest a post here - http://communities.vmware.com/community ... orkstation.

First of all, thank you very much for your help even though this was not the solution.

Well, in the end the solution is simpler than anticipated.

Go to the VMware website, go to download centre and download the latest version of your Workstation - in my case this was Workstation 7.0.1 for Linux with tools.
To do this you will have to log in with your user name/e-mail address and password to verify that you have an account with them, the one that you had to set up when you purchased your original version.

Save the bundle into root of your linux.

:P Double-click on it and it will update your old installation.

Inbetween you will have to click on the one or the other 'accept'.
When the update has completed you close everything and can start your virtual machine. It will start in the same way as before. :P
