Installing ESXi 3.5 on DELL Vostro 220S

 Installing ESXi 3.5 on DELL Vostro 220S Hi,
Has anybody succeeded or at least tried installing ESXi 3.5 on DELL Vostro 220S?

Re: Installing ESXi 3.5 on DELL Vostro 220S I read the post on 200 system but 200 and 220 seem to differ fair bit.
The storage controller: Intel ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller - Ven_8086&Dev_3A22
The Network Card: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller - Ven_10EC&Dev_8168
None of them are in the HCL.
Looks like Vostro 220S are just not meant for ESXi

Re: Installing ESXi 3.5 on DELL Vostro 220S The controller should be recognize by ESXi - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/Hardware_support.php, but for the NIC you would have to add a driver. http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/customize_oem_tgz.php. Does it have a 64 bit CPU? It does use 32Bit CPU so I have no option.
However, I did find some posts on modifying simple.map and pci.ids to make ICH10R controllers work.
It will be worth trying.

I can go with ESXi 4 then.

Re: Installing ESXi 3.5 on DELL Vostro 220S With ESXi 4 you shouldn't have to modify simple.map for the controller as it is already listed in simple.map. But you will have to get the NIC driver in place as the install process expects to find a usuable NIC and won't complete without one (that's a change from 3.5).
