Post Trying to work with perc 6/i on whitebox hardware
I have several motherboards (asus p8z68v-le and few intel h55, h57, h61 motherboards), none of them enter the perc bios (ctrl+r), some of them shows the perc 6/i message but won't enter it's bios, others dont recognize the card or won't even boot when it installed.

I tried with no cables or HDDs at all, as far as I know it still should load its BIOS.

BTW, I have only few days warranty because I got a used one, so I need to check it's condition ASAP.

Any help/suggestion/tip will be highly appreciated.
Many thanks!

Have you tried to install Windows / Linux on another controller / disk, then add the card and see if you can update the firmware for the card? Seems that you might have a defective card.

Do you think it's an hardware failure or the firmware update can actually fix something?

And yes, on the Z68 there's Windows 7 installed and it recognize the controller as 6/i integrated in Device manager but it doesnt show HDDs connected to this controller.

I'd lean towards a hardware issue given the problem with multiple MBs. If you have a chance to return it, I would take that option.

Do you recommend getting a different card or the same thing again? (ESXi 5 on whitebox hardware).

Must say it's a very important production server in my office.

In my lab I've gone with a number of LSI branded cards like the Perc series. I wouldn't hesitate to go with another. If it is really critical I would lean towards new as it would be easier to replace if you have a failure down the road.

With the Perc 6/i I never sure about Mobo compatibility, the need for clear tape mods, regular SATA drive compatibility and such, that's the only reason I thought going with a new LSI card.
Unfortunately the value series with 4 ports and BBU (integrated or not) will cost around $520-540 and its out of the budget for this box\project.

What's your suggestion in this situation?

Thanks again.

I'd look around at ebay or other sources for LSI megaraid. In my last system I picked up a megaraid 8888elp which is also on the HCL.
