Need urgent help from vmware experts inside here...


my rig have these 2 hdds below :


- 2TB Samsung SATA HDD

- 4GB Transcend IDE Flash Module (TS4GDOM40V-S)


my idea is to install VMware ESXi 5 to the 4GB IDE Flash module and use the 2TB SATA HDD as my datastore.


during ESXi 5 installation process, i can only see my Samsung 2TB HDD being listed for installing ESXi 5


and so i press "Alt+F1" to get into the CLI during the installation process, when i type "lspci" i can see my motherboard IDE controller - JMicron JMB368 but when i type "fdisk -l" i can only see my Samsung 2TB HDD being listed.


i have tried Ubuntu, Redhat, Xenserver 6, Windows 7 and etc, all of them can see my 4GB IDE Flash module during the installation process and i can install successfully to the 4GB IDE Flash module.


I also tried to use this guide : http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/ESXi_i ... _drive.php but i can't seems to be able to find /installer/Core/TargetFilter.py inside usr/lib/vmware/


Can someone please give me some pointers here ?? why is it that ESXi 5 can recognize my IDE controller but can't see the 4GB flash memory ? Do i need a driver for the JMicron JMB-368 IDE controller ?? Do i need a customized oem.tgz for supporting the 4GB IDE Flash memory ??

You would first need a driver that would work with the jmicron controller.

for everyone benefit, i will list down what i have done to get esxi 5 to recognize my IDE flash module

1) go here - http://dustint.com/post/471/esxi-5.0-jm ... -ahci-mode and download this file - pata-jmicron-0.1.5.x86_64.vib

2) rename .man to .vib

3) download ESXi Customizer 2.7 and integrate you downloaded esxi 5 iso image with the .vib file.
