Looks like it still doesn't work. The module is loaded, but the installer does not see the drives connected to the card. I tried it both with the card's BIOS enabled and disabled by jumper.

It is showing up as a vmhba now.

Thanks for your efforts :)

Not sure if this is a help to you...

Same here, the vib does install fine, however, stuck on usbarbitrator start. It seems to have issues when i boot from a drive connected to the sil3132 card, it might have trouble mounting the datastore..

I am sorry that I did not reply to you sooner, and the driver whom I made may not work.

Moreover, thank you for giving a report of operation and correction.
It seems that it does not work if the thing used as symbol problems was deleted from the source file.

Since time is required to solve symbol problems, a source file is attached.
It will be saved if you can support someone.
Correcting kernel source 2.6.24, a compile error does not come out.

Thank you for your consideration.

Thanks Ichi, hopefully someone will take a crack at it.

Edit: it seems there is a working driver for ESXI 4.1. Is that any help?

I'm gonna hook on to this thread. I have a Sil3132 controller I would like to use with ESXi 5.

Does any of you know about a cheap Sata600 PCIe controller supported by ESXi or ESXi Customizer?

Thomas

Post Re: sil3132
Hi,

I just bought a SIL 3124 PCI ex sata card. Therefore I had a look to this undefined symbols issue.
Those functions are exported by the libata library. However VMWare chose to export only a subset of the functions normally exported by the linux library... That's why the sate_eh_xxx functions are undefined (see beautiful #ifdef in libata-core.c from the VMware open source drivers).

So just to test this card, I went for the (very) quick and dirty solution, and copy/pasted the missing function from libata-eh.c to the sata-sil24.c...
The good news is it's working: after loading my custom module, I was able to access the 3 drives connected to the card from ESXi 5.0u1.

The clean solution would probably be to build a custom libata with all the symbols exported...

If you're interested, here is my patched source file and the compiled module. I'm not a VIB expert, so it's not provided.

Hope this helps,
V

PS: this has been built on CentOS 5.8, using linux 2.6.25 sata_sil24.c original source code.
