Post Re: Shuttle SH67H3 - ESXi 5.0.0, 469512
Have been having numerous problems with the exact same system and ESXi version, however I get the error Unable to create graphics susbsystem.
Is the built in GFX with the 2600 suddenly not able to be used?

Have also tried to install on my laptop but it seems ESXi is unable to see my Scandisk USB Flash Drive, can anyone recommend one that works?

Thanks in advance, really want to start studying :(

Hello.
I was thinking to purchase a Dell Poweredge T110 II to install esxi5 but 2 things do look at shuttle SH67H7, same hardware than SH67H3, different case.
One is that dell server doesn't support SATA III HD, and I will go in the beginning to a local storage.
Another is RAM, as ECC modules, to get 32Gb are really absurd expensive.

I am currently collecting prices for the following new configuration, I haven't seen mentions to this:
- case : SH67H7 - 275 Euro
- RAM: 2 lots of G.Skill Ares DDR3 1333 PC3-10666 16GB 2x8GB CL9 (94 Euro)
- Processor: Intel Core I7-3770 3.4Ghz Ivy Bridge (275 Euro)
- Intel SSD 520 Series SATA3 2.5" 120GB (176 Euro)
OR
- WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 64MB (109 Euro)

I have some questions: Does de onboard sata raid works?
it will decide how can I configure the disks whether works or not, I mean, if I can do a RAID 1, perhaps I will go to WD Caviar, if it doesn't work I will go to 1 SSD and 1 WD.

Does someone have experience with it?

Is it noisy? I am married with a non-tech woman :-\

Typically MBs have something like an Intel ICH* or Storage Matrix controller which are software based RAID. ESXi doesn't support software RAID so you'll just see individual disks even if you configure an array in the BIOS.

How did you install the 3 NIC's?

Specification SH67H3 from shuttle website

Expansion Slots
1x PCI-Express x16 v2.0 slot (PEG, for graphics cards only)
1x PCI-Express x1 v2.0 slot
1x Mini-PCI-Express x1v2.0 slot (for the optional WLAN module)
Supports Dual-slot (double-width) graphics cards -
in this case the second PCI-Express slot will be occupied.
A 6 pin power connector is available for the graphics card.

So I can only use the 1x PCI-Express x1 v2.0 slot.
Right?

I'm a bit confused... How did you install the 3 Intel cards?

Have a setup similar to most on here so won't rehash.

Trying to use USB stick for boot. Been through standard procedure for installing on USB stick via workstation, setting root password, then booting from stick to get into ESXi. Setup my management network, then logon with client and finish setting up networks and storage.

However, when I reboot I lose everything except the root password. I have tried Kingston and Lexar sticks in the front and back to no avail. Haven't tried a stick attached to the motherboard yet. I have the cable to do it, but didn't think it would make a difference.

I see plenty on here who are booting off USB so it's obvious it works.

For starters, what stick (brand and model) are people using? Also I don't think it's a firmware issue b/c I am running firmware from 3/2012 and others on here have the system working pre this firmeware.

Thanks,
Andy

When you're booting the stick post install for the first time is it attached to your server or workstation (i.e. are you using a VM?)?

First boot post-install in on the box, not in the VM.

Does that problem of loosing your config continue on subsequent reboots?

If you run the following at the console or via SSH, does the config file in /bootbank get updated?

/sbin/backup.sh 0 /bootbank/
