Post Atheros AR928X mPCIe WIFI card support
Hi folks, new to the forum.

I have my first ESXi server up running my NAS (unRAID) and router (pfSense). I'm using DirectPath I/O for the SASLP-MV8 controller card to the NAS software.

I would like to use DirectPath for my Atheros AR928X mPCI card. I checked it off in the config and it showed up in pfSense. However, I am getting device timeout errors in the virtualized environment. I'm thinking that I need some help with the base driver or something else in the config to make this work.

Appreciate any advice and tips.

Thanks!

Have you tried with any other devices or guest OSes?

The answer is no and no.

I have no other devices that I want to pass through to pfSense. I guess I could attempt to pass the 82579NIC direct to pfSense to see if that part works.

I have not thought about loading up any other VM that would use the WIFI card.

What I *do* know is that pfSense supports the AR928X when booting native on the HW.

Thanks!

Update.

I loaded a Win7-VM with this device passed through. It loaded drivers for a Dell 1515-N adapter (seems correct since I'm sure this came from a laptop tear down). I checked the PCI id's and it all matches. Made by Atheros, etc.

No joy on the card working. It could never connect to a network. Windows tried to reset the adapter several times as troubleshooting but it doesn't fully program up the device.

Any ideas on how I might proceed?

Thanks!
