Re: Realtek test drivers of ESXi 5.0
Hi there ! I used ESXi Customizer to build my iso. Also if you want to build an offline bundle with many VIB's in one file, use ESXi5-CPTAgain, tanks a lot to ichi who made this possible ! And to peetz (if I'm not mistaking, he's the one who created ESXi-Customizer and CPT) ! If you need it i can post an offline bundle for the Asus M3A mobo with drivers for the onboard NIC + sata Here are the VIB's I used to create my customized install CD.

Have you taken a look at the vmkernel log file to see if the driver is loaded and if that's the case if any errors are generated?

Re: Realtek test drivers of ESXi 5.0
I have been able to get ESXi 5 running on my M17xR3 laptop with the AR8151 file that ichi provided. I am able to see my nic "vmnic0" and can see that it is up. The problem that I am having is that even if I give it an IP address which is part of my home network, I can't get it to communicate with anything. I am able to get replies if I ping localhost, but if I try to ping the gateway or anything else it doesn't work. I checked to see if the routing table looked like it was supposed to and it did. I also tied all of the other commands to check the status of the interface and it looked fine. Are there any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you checked the duplex / speed settings for vmnic0?

Dave.Mishchenko wrote: Have you checked the duplex / speed settings for vmnic0? Yes I did. Everything looked fine. I ended up trying the other driver that was posted on page 5 by peetz. The one where he mentioned that the mapping was wrong for the one posted by ichi. After repackaging the iso and and installing, I was able to get an IP from my DHCP server, but the minute that I connected to the ESXi server over http to see if the connection was working, i lost connectivity ti the ESXi Host. I looked at the ESXi Host and it still had an IP but this time, there was an error in the vmkernel.log file. The error I am seeing is this: cpu6:2054 <3>atheros_eth0 0000:07:00.0: TX/RX over flow (status = 0x8) I am using the latest ESXi download from the VMware website and the esxi-customizer 2.7. I dont know if it matters but I am also checking the (U)EFI-bootable option on esxi-customizer.

Re: Realtek test drivers of ESXi 5.0
I just bought a $309 (believe it or not) Asus X54L laptop with a Sandy Bridge Core i3 (dual core processor plus hyperthreading with Intel virtualization enabled) and 4GB RAM. I thought, before I ordered it that the machine would have an Intel onboard NIC but as it turns out, it has an Atheros AR8151 PCI-e gigabit adapter onboard (or so Windows 7 tells me).
I've tried all of the .vib packages listed and downloadable via this forum and I've gotten as far as ESXi (5.0 Update 1) loading the driver and successfully getting an address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS info from DHCP. Once that happens, the machine does not communicate on the network. Pings to and from fail.
Is there possibly a later driver? Can anyone assist?
The machine was purchased for experimentation, training, etc. I have a production vSphere 5 environment on a pair of Dell servers.
Thanks! Jeff

Re: Realtek test drivers of ESXi 5.0
hello all,
I try using r8168-1.tgz driver but my esxi 5 still cannot save the ip address. Everytime i restart the pc, ip address that i already set gone. What's the problem?. Or maybe someone has the latest r8168 ver 8.0.31 as mention in realtek website. Thank you for any help.

Doesn't seem that your config is being saved. If you look in /bootbank/ at state.tgz (may be local.tgz) and then run /sbin/backup.sh -0 /bootbank/ does the configuration file get updated?
