Post ESXi 5 driver 3c59x for 3Com FastEthernet NICs
In order to use an old 3Com FastEthernet card on my newly installed ESXi 5 host, I extracted the 3c59x driver from Linux kernel version 2.6.25 and compiled it on a CentOS 5 virtual machine. If you'd like to use your 3Com NIC on ESXi 5, you can download the attached zip file and try this driver.

The zip file contains a single VIB file. Once you unzip it, you can either insert it into an installation ISO using ESXi-Customizer or add it to your existing ESXi 5 host with esxcli command.

Only 2 files will be added to your ESXi 5 host with this driver: /etc/vmware/driver.map.d/3c59x.map and /usr/lib/vmware/vmkmod/3c59x. There is no ids file for this driver because ESXi 5 has a copy of pci.ids in /etc/vmware, which contains all the ids of known devices. In fact, if you add more than 3 ids files into the /usr/share/hwdata/driver.pciids.d folder, you will get an segmentation fault when you run lspci command.
