Post HP Proliant DL380 G6 - USB passthrough working?
Does anybody know if it is supported. The box has Intel 5520 chipset http://www.intel.com/products/server/chipsets/5500-5520/5500-5520-overview.htm but I cannot find any concrete information. And frankly I am quite new to this all.

We need one of ESXi 4.0 virtual machines (WIndows 2003 Server R2 Std 32-bit) to have access to an external USB hard disk connected to the host's on-board USB port.

TIA

With a newer server like that you should be fine, but it may not be the case that you can link onboard USB ports into a VM (i.e. you may need to add a card).

If you search the web on "what's new in vsphere 4.1" you will see another option if you can wait or I would suggest using a USB over IP device to provide some mobility to the VM.
