Post subject:  What RAID controller?

Hi,

I have a supermicro 1U server with 2x 1TB harddisks. When i install ESXi 4.1 or 5.0 i can install, but not in RAID1: i need a RAID controller.

Here i have the "RocketRAID 1820A" and the "3WARE 8006k" but both unsupported

The question is: what RAID controller do i need? If i look here:
http://www.vm-help.com//esx40i/esx40_wh ... hp#Storage

There are a lot of controllers, but in different price categories and performance categories. Also when i click the links behind the cards, not always its 100% clear the card is supported or not.

The budget we have is < 100 euro's.

Any help would be very appreciated!!

This looks promising (Promise SATA300)

Then again, it seems it only supports soft-raid: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1769

Help!

I'd look for a used Dell Prec 5 / 6. Those are LSI based controllers so you'll get real RAID and also health status within the vSphere client.
