Post subject:  importing a VM to the new host

I have a couple of vm saved on a external sata disk. i want to load it to my newly esx 4.1 host. since my vm are around 400gb per vm, transfer over the network is not a good idea as it will take forever to transfer.

my options are to use an externall hdd and transfer the vms directly to the host server, i try that but my esx host cant see the usb hdd i plug in.

i also tried to install the external disk to the host as a slave disk. under the configuration tab>storage i can see the additional but how can i get the vm's from it and transfer to the datastore of my esx. will RDM on SATA be the answer? i still dont do it as it's unclear for me.

Sorry for the late reply (I'm just returing from vacation).

How have you made out with this? You could mount the drive to another PC and share it out with NFS. ESXi could then access that share and you could copy it that way.
