Re: ASUS M4N78 (trying built-in SATA) My mainboard is Asus M3N78-EM with visible 6 channels as "unknown controller" s my oem.tgz , connected ch 1 and 2 and work.

Did you update the ahci driver by any mean, or is it the one included in the ESXi installation CD?
Your BIOS is in AHCI mode right?
I will try this (again) later today.

I can finally run ESXi 4.0 on my ZOTAC GF8200-C-E (AM2+) mini-ITX (MCP78 based) with SATA HD (10de:0ad4) and 1G network (10de:0760) fully supported by your oem.tgz
Can you add 10de:0ad0 and compile new driver, because this mode may be useful in some cases.

Re: ASUS M4N78 (trying built-in SATA) Hi, Unfortunatly this solution does not work with M4N78. With the oem.tgz kindly provided by premysl, I cannot even get the driver loaded. This is the same result as the ESXi built-in driver  (I'm already working with the latest release 4.0.0-171294). I can only load the sata_nv driver (whatever the bios setting). The problem is that even with the this driver loaded I cannot see the connected HD. Anyway, thanks for the update.

Could you give your exact setup for ESXi 4 and ZOTAC GF8200-C-E (AM2+) mini-ITX.
I'm trying to set up a mini-ITX based system but I'm trying to decide between the Zotac or Intel DG41MJ.
There seem to be several posting on the Phenom processors having problems with virtualization in general so I'm trying to narrow down what configurations work.

Re: ASUS M4N78 (trying built-in SATA) I'm having problems with my ASUS M3N78-EH too. ESXi doesn't like my SATA HD. However after fiddling with my comp here is what I've found: Code: bios in sata mode

hwinfo -p (or lspci -p):

/var/log/messages:
pata_amd claimed device 0000:00:06.0
driver pata_amd claimed 1 device
pata_amd loaded successfully.
fdisk -l:
no output As you can see everything is as it should be except fdisk doesn't show any drives. Neither does ESXi. This may be expected since the controller is in SATA mode. I changed it to AHCI and tried again. Guess what? Nothing changed. The commands above produce the same outputs. Shouldn't the controller have a different device ID? If not, how can I force it to load a different module (probably ahci.o)?

Re: ASUS M4N78 (trying built-in SATA) Hmm I decided to read the manual (LOL) and realized that this board has both SATA and PATA ports! 10de:0759 is the PATA one, 10de:0ad0 is the SATA one (in SATA mode).
I'm going to explore further.
