Post CPU's Capable of FT
Hi Guys

Question about CPU support for FT

Im trying to setup FT but having some drama's understanding what actually makes a CPU compatible :?

VMwares list of supported CPU's doesn't mention the C2D E8400 but a post on this site says it does (viewtopic.php?f=13&t=244). The only thing that matches on VM's spec list and Intels E8400 is that they are both 45nm chips and also both from the wolfdale family of CPU's.. but I still dont know which feature is present in these CPU/CPU Family that make it work.

Anyone know what exactly makes a CPU compatible with FT?

The CPU requires hardware Memory Management Unit (MMU) support. With AMD this is RVI and with Intel it is EPT.

This is a bit of an older source, but lists some non-server CPUs. VMware will only show server class CPUs as supported. http://www.gabesvirtualworld.com/list-o ... ible-cpus/

Thanks Dave,

From what I've read in various forums only Intels Core series support EPT not the Core2Duo.

I cant seem to find any technical data that lists features of the E8400. I checked the specification document for both the E8400 and Core i7 920 and only the i7 doc has reference to EPT. I could be looking in the wrong spot on Intels site.. not sure there :?

This is starting to get confusing. Maybe there is something else that makes FT tick.

What do you think ?
