Post Loading ESXi 4.0.0 Update 1 with GA-EP45-UD3L
Hi,

I am new to virtualization and am trying to get started. I have followed postings on the group forum trying to learn as much as I can.

I am running into a problem of installing the ESXi 4.0.0 Update 1 on my white box. After the installer program was read from the DVD from mboot.c32 ......to image.tgz and to install.tgz, and then asked me to choose (ESC), (R) Repair or (Enter) Install at this point, regardless of what I typep, there's no response ! Please help. Thanks.

The mother board I use is Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L with 8 Gbyte of memory, the CPU is Intel Q9550, my hard drive is WD 640G SATA. I have purchased and installed an Intel PWLA8391GT 10/100/1000Mbps PCI PRO/1000 GT network card. I've also disabled the on-board LAN controller.

I've also checked that VT is enabled.

Thanks,

Do you get any response to ALT+F1 or ALT+F12? Are you using a PS2 or USB keyboard?

The KB is PS2, mouse is USB.

There's no response either from ALT+F1 or ALT+F12.

Thanks.

Try it without the mouse and also the nousbboot option - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/vmkernel_boot_options.php.

Dear Dave,

I tried loading w/o the USB mouse and with the nousbBoot option but result is the same - no responsive PS2 keyboard.

I tried loading ESXi 3.5 and got the same non-responsive PS2 keyboard.

Just out curiosity, I replaced the PS2 keyboard with a newly bought USB keyboard and got the ESXi 4.0.0 installed !!!! Thanks so much for your guidance and help.

However, when I used ALT-F1 to get to the shell terminal, all I got is the heading "ESXi 4.0 http://www.wmware.com Copyright......." but there's no prompt ? Please let me know how to proceed from here.

Thanks,

Just type in "unsupported" and then press enter. You don't get text feedback when you type unsupported, but if you enter in correctly then press enter you'll get a login prompt.
