Post Hardware monitoring for ESXi 4.1 Host

I hope to be running ESXi Hypervisor on some generic home PC hardware, Asus P8Z68 mother board etc. I'll post details once its all working.

My question just now is whether there are any generic hardware monitoring tools that can be used, for example to check CPU temperatures. Under Windows there are thinks like Coretemp and Realtemp, CPUz etc that will read temperatures and fan speeds.

Anything similar that can be used with ESXi? I'm assuming that you couldn't do anything as crude as spinning up a Windows VM and running the tool on that.

Thanks, Tony S

ESXi uses IPMI to extract system data and CIM providers to get health data from storage / network hardware. Most desktops don't support IPMI so you won't get much in the way of system health data.
