Post Web interface
When i log in using http://esx I only get the option to view datastore files, dsk files but no ui.
Is this expected in free version?

That's expected with ESXi. It doesn't matter if it is the free license or a paid edition. For ESXi you need to go with vCenter to get a web interface that allows you to manage the VMs.

With ESX you'll get a service unavailble error by default I think and after you enable the web interface then you're able to control VMs.
