Post Where do I look for logs after ESXi 4.0 becomes unresponsive
Hello:

I have an ESXi 4.0 server that is working well, but under some circumstances, I am able to get it to become unresponsive. The virtual host terminals time out and then the vSphere client times out. I then have to cold boot the ESXi 4.0 server to get it to come back on.

I'm familiar with using the vSphere client, but I don't know where to look for logs after an event like this. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Are you able to do anything at the console of the host? I.e. you could try ALT+F1 to access tech support mode or ALT+F12 to get to the vmkernel log file.

You could also setup syslogging to save logs to a datastore if the host is entirely unresponsive.

It becomes totally unresponsive under heavy load. I'll try setting up syslogs. Thanks.
