Post New to VMware and having issues installing.
I purchase 2 used DELL OPTIplex 745's here are the specs:
Processor, E6400, 2.13, 2M Core Duo-Conroe, LONSDALE/LAVACA
HARD DRIVE..., 80G, S2, 7.2K, 3.5, WD-UNIC
6gb mem

I check specs on ulitimatewhitebox.com.
My problem is that my install of 4.1 is hanging at "loading vmboot.gz" and never moves beyond this point. Any advice?

Have you tried updating the BIOS for your host?

yes, I upgraded bios from 2.1.0 to 2.6.4 (latest version). I even tried to install with virtulization enabled and disabled. The install still hangs @ loading vmboot.gz.

Are you able to press ALT+F12 to see the vmkernel log file?

No, I don't have the option to see the logs, the machine actually locks when it hangs.

Have you tried ESXi 4.0? If you can get that to install you could then upgrade to the latest.

Thanks for the advice, I was able to install esxi 4.0 without issue, Now I am having an issue upgrading to 4.1, every update that I have seen this far requires vcenter. Is there a way to update without vcenter?

You can try this - http://www.vm-help.com/esx41/Patching_4 ... tility.php

Otherwise you need to use vihostupdate from the vSphere Command Line Interface (vCLI) or the equivalent in PowerCLI.
