 upgrade fro ESXi 4.0U2 -> 4.1 didn't work?
So, I ran the vihostupdate script, which claimed it completed successfully. And rebooted.
But when I connect using the 4.0 client, it still looks like it is running 4.0?

OK, got a monitor on it. Upgrade looks fine. But when it reboots it just sits at "loading VMWare Hypervisor" forever...
Atleast when I reboot it I get back to a working 4.0U2
Any ideas?

Any customizations to the default install? When it's sitting at Loading ... can you access the console or press ALT+f12 to see the vmkernel log?

I am pretty sure I have done no customizations.
Would the log be there after it has rolled back to 4.0U2? Or do I need to do the update again?
I can SSH to the box, where is the log file located?

The logs will be gone if you've rebooted. You ran also update hosts at the console with the esxupdate command.

OK, I will try to apply the update again and see if I can get to the log when it is hung.

Nope. Alt-f12 does nothing when it gets into that hung state.
And I have tried the esxupdate from the host itself. Same behavior.

The log file for esxupdate should be here - /var/log/vmware/esxupdate.log. Does it record anything?

Sorry, that file isn't there.

That's the fun of ESX vs ESXi. Looks like they just dump the log data into /var/log/messages
