Post Help please - getting my server up and runnig
Hey,

thanks to this site and the guides I managed to get my whitebox going - well it boots to esxi. My next challange is to configure the box. I currently have an xp x86 client (physical) which has dowloaded the vsphere client software but it wont connect to the server. The error message I get is:

error parsing the server - client.xml and the type initializer for virtualinfrastructure.utils...

Is this due to .net framework? If I uninstall .net will this help? Ive read that you need a 64bit os to connect to vm 4.x - is this correct?

Just keen to get cracking - :)

Thanks!

You might try uninstalling the patch referred to in this KB article - http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1022611. Which version of ESXi are you running? The client is 32 bit so you don't need a 64 bit OS.

Cheers Dave... I uninstalled (or thought I did) the problem .net update but it didnt work - maybe I did something wrong. Checked my version of the client and it was quite old so I havedownloaded 4.0 update 2 to see what happens there.

I dont really want to jump straight to 4.1 as I am keen to get some vm's running first and then do an update just as a bit of a learning experience.

Thanks again for your help and info - this site is chuffin great!
