ESXi with only one physical ethernet card
Hello all,
I'm trying to use VMWare ESXi on my Sun workstation as server (Sun W2100Z). Its seems to be working but I don't know why my VM can use the only physical ethernet on the server.
Its possible to use a lot of VM and only one ethernet card ?
Thanks in advance!

Re: ESXi with only one physical ethernet card
It is possible to configure your host to use a single physical NIC for management and all your VMs. But ideally you might split these roles based on load and include other NIC ports for redundancy.
How many NIC ports does the host have?

Re: ESXi with only one physical ethernet card
Hello, Thank you for your answer. Actually I have only one NIC, (the internal ethernet card). I may buy one dual NIC card next but I need to test two VM with my ESXi for this time with only one card. What is the procedure for my VM use the same card (management + VM) please ? Thanks in advance!

Re: ESXi with only one physical ethernet card
The install should have created a single virtual switch (vSwitch0) and it will contain both a management port (vmkernel port) and virtual machine port group (called VM Network).
You'll be able to attach 119 VMs to the VM Network port group before you have to make any changes to the vSwitch (assuming you don't modify the vSwitch in others ways as the vSwitch will have 120 ports by default).
