 Dell PowerEdge T110
Has anyone tried (and succeeded?) to install ESXi4 installable on a Dell PowerEdge T110? I heard the SATA controller chipset makes this a no-go.
Thanks!
Jim

 Re: Dell PowerEdge T110
I haven't heard it mentioned. What sort of SATA controller does it have?

 Re: Dell PowerEdge T110
It is the new Intel 3420 chipset. I'm hoping this gets support from VMware soon as this should be pretty widespread soon as an entry level server chipset. I know Hyper-V & Xen work on it and I am sure KVM works on it as well. Maybe they'll feel the pressure to support it...

 Re: Dell PowerEdge T110
You might want to check with your Dell rep about the model. Certification is handled by the hardware venders and not VMware and it may be that Dell has already tried it out internally.

 Re: Dell PowerEdge T110
Thanks Dave, I will contact Dell and will post the reply (if any..). In the meantime, has anyone tried installing ESXi4 on this platform yet? If so, what was the outcome?

 Re: Dell PowerEdge T110
Interesting. They support T100 and T105.
I would see what is different hardware wise between the above and the T110. If you think it's the SATA controller, does the T100/105 have the same?

 Re: Dell PowerEdge T110
I can't find anything with the specific controller for the T105 but the T110 seems to come with the SAS 6/iR which is listed as supported.

 Re: Dell PowerEdge T110
I have ESXi 4 running on the T110. It has the P55 aka Intel Ibex Peak chipset so I had to use the custom oem.tgz described here to get ESXi to see the SATA controller and drives.

 Re: Dell PowerEdge T110
Well that's good to hear. I'm expecting my T110 mid next week and will give this a go. I also heard that ESX/ESXi update 1 is due on 19NOV. I may wait and see if that works right out of the box..

 Re: Dell PowerEdge T110
I tried using the new oem.tgz bit it didn't work for me. What do I add in the simple.map & pci.ids files for this chipset?
