Purchased two of the exact bare bone kits machines:
1) Case: Apex PC-389 ATX Black Mid-T

2) MB: Intel DG45ID: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboar ... op/dg45id/
a. ESX4:
i. Error on console screen “TSC: 356472312 cpu 0:0) Chipset: 540: using PIC; make sure if noapic is used it is on purpose”.
- Called Intel to verify if I could turn off APIC in the BIOS but there is not an option.

3) Processor: Intel Core2Duo E8200 2.66GHz, 1333FSB, 6MB Cache
a. Onboard Intel 82567LF-2 nic
i. Works with ESX4i but NOT with ESX4

4) Memory: Crucial DDR2 800MHz PC6400 2x2GB
a. Make sure you make the voltage of this motherboard or else the board intermittently shuts down

5) Seagate 750GB SATA 7200/32MB/SATA-3GB – ESXI & VMFS
a. Swapped this drive out with a Western Digital 80GB SATA drive in one machine and a 160GB SATA drive in the second machine. Using the both 750 GB SATA drives in my NAS; see below. ESXI & VMFS run on all SATA drives

6) 1 extral NIC: PCIe Intel PT GB
7) DVD: Samsung 22x DVDRW SATA OEM

8) Shared Storage
- Netgear ReadyNAS DUO 2150
a) 2x Seagate 750GB SATA 7200/32MB/SATA-3GB
 Mirrored
 Setup as a NFS and able to mount NFS share to ESX
 Can VMotion
 Can HA
a) Ran into issue in KB:
- http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/micros ... Id=1013013
- After changing my IP address range I was able to perform HA

Thanks for this info.

I had a question about your NAS setup. I recall that certain NFS parameters had to be met in order for ESX to log in since it uses root.

(rw, no_root_squash,sync)

So how was this accomplished with your netgear NAS?

For some reason I never saw you question Brandon. The netgear ReadyNAS DUO works out of the box as does the Iomega X-Series NAS. There is an option to setup shares with NFS on Netgears device. The only downside is that Microsoft Vista and Win 7 have an issue copying to and from this device. Netgear stated Microsoft is working to create a package to fix the issues Vista and 7 have working with these NAS devices but who knows when that will be.
