Hello VM-Help Community!

This is my 3rd whitebox configuration after
http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=97
and
http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8124#p8124

To get an extremely low power consuming system in small boxes for cluster tests, i bought two mini ITX motherboards with the new AMD E350 APU.

Configuration 1:
Memory: 8GB Kingston ValueRAM - Memory -2x 4GB - DDR3 - 1333
Case: LC Power LC-1340mi
Mainboard: ASUS E35M1-I DELUXE

Configuration 2:
Memory: 8GB Kingston ValueRAM - Memory -2x 4GB - DDR3 - 1333
Case: LC Power LC-1340mi
Mainboard: ASRock E350M1/USB3

Thanks for the helpful posts in Thread http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2872 . The Configuration works perfect after modifying the image with the customized oem.tgz.
I’m using a qnap NAS Box as shared Storage, so I can’t tell you anyting about the onboard SATA Controller.

Very nice, good for a low-power system. But is the new AMD Fusion powerfull enough to virtualize systems?

I also have an ASRock E350M1, currently using it as a mediacenter. Think I am going to test it with ESXi too, after reviewing your post. :D

Hi all,
i'm still reading this forum for a long time while searching for my own perfect whitebox with low power consumption. Well i think, the ASRock E350M1 would be perfect for my needs. I just want to run ONE box and virtualize my Astaro Security Gateway (FW, Proxy & SSL-VPN), a virtual workstation for remote access (win7 or xp) and my old Win 2003 SBS System for CIFS, Mail, SQL-DB & other services for home usage. ;)

Is there anyone that can tell my something about the sata-performance of this E350 boards within esxi? Also are the machines on your current setup working fine or are they slow-going?

This is my intention exactly - currently i'm running an astaro secure gateway 8 and a windows server 2008 DC on one box. For low power virtual machines absolutely sufficient.

@caraboy: have fun with testing, you'll get it working within a few minutes!

@_griswold_ or @caraboy

maybe one of you can do me a favor and test the performance and the reliability of locally attached harddisks? This would be a great help for my decision.

Thanks in advance.

@gerh.71: I currently use it as a mediacenter, with a laptop HDD in a very small enclosure.

I can post a HDDtune test with this 2.5 inch WD Caviar HDD, if you are interested.

Hi caraboy,

thank you very much for this offer, but i prefer to hear about the performance of the SATA-ports when esxi is installed. Of course i assume that your mediacenter with your laptop hdd runs very good but you cannot suggest that the same appears with esxi installed.
