Ok I managed to make my system work with a

mobo : MSI H67MA-E45
Cpu : Intel Core i5 2400 1155 slot
Ram : 16GB Corsair vengeance
NIC : Intel CT 1000 pci-e
HDD : 1.5 TB wd green caviar

ATTENTION with the mobo !!!! : I had serious issues at first with the bios.
Using bios 1.7 ESXi installer wouldn't proceed and was printing an error about the cpu cores that couldn't be manipulated. (Something like that I do not remember the exact error.)

With bios 1.8 the esxi installed. However ! There is an issue with bios 1.8 You cannot disable the onboard lan. If you do so the system will not continue to boot. MSI is aware of the problem and supposately they will fix this on bios 1.9.

Any way when I installed the external nic everything went fine. I have been using the box for 4 days now. There was no problems at all to now.

I think there might be a problem with the network. I need to further investigate on that and I will get back to you...

Even though I never loose connectivity using the vsphere or ssh to the esxi I have some issues with the virtual machines and I don't know why.

If someone has something to tell me about that problem you are welcome :)

I and others have used the board without issues with esx:

My board has bios 1.7 and it works with both the onboard nic if an oem.tgz is used, or with an intel PCIe (expi9301).

You manged to install the ESXi original iso image with bios 1.7 ???
I couldn't until I upgraded the bios to 1.8.

I don't want to use a "customized" image for esxi in order not to experience any kind of problems and in order to be able to upgrade without errors into future esxi versions.

About the nic. We all know realtek is the worst and cheapest nic ever built. The intel nics have been used by millions of servers for decades and there has never been a single problem. Also a brand new intel pci-e 1.1 card costs less than 30 bucks so cheap to buy and worthy in my opinion.
