- BIOS: 1.07
- NIC: Intel Pro 1000 PT Dual Port (PCI-e 16x)
- NIC: Intel Pro 1000 PT Single Port (PCI-e 1x)
- VT-d: Yes

Shuttle recently released BIOS version 1.07 which has fixed the following for me.

  • I am now able to install a NIC in the PCI-e 16x slot, prior to this BIOS update I was not able to, I use to receive a PSOD.
  • Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d) is now enabled.

Hi, I also plan to install an ESX4.1 on a SH67H3, with 8GB and only using local disks.

Some questions :
Did the shuttle is not too noisy ? (for instance with only idle vm running) ?
and how about the temp. of the box with the i7/2600 ?

Robert.

Thanks for sharing. I was researching whether the SH67H3 would do VT-d and FT, and you answered that. Looks like that BIOS upgrade was key.

I noticed that you have a total of four Ethernet ports on your box. Can you share how you are using them? I am just starting out with VMWare and was wondering if the SH67H3 with the i7 Sandy Bridge ships would play well. Are there any restrictions that you have run into?

Thanks Again.

It's pretty quiet. But my Shuttles and Qnap NAS is in another room. Temp-wise it doesnt that hot. I can't really run any software to monitor the temp within Windows as it's a VM.

I have four ethernet ports but I am only using two at the moment. One for management / VMNetwork (this also runs FTLogging*), one for storage (iSCSI&NFS) / vMotion*.

Now that I have my onboard NIC working I'll be splitting some of the traffic with the spare eth ports.

*Not ideal but it's only test.
